Vintage Copper Lion Head Pot with Brass Bowl and Crumb Tray
This lot offers a mixed group of traditional fireside and household metalware. The centrepiece is a copper pot with a riveted seam and a lion head mask on the side, with a ring pull hanging from its jaws. Alongside it are a bell-shaped copper vessel with a swing handle and a domed lid, a brass bowl with a wide rim and a polished band, and a crumb tray fitted with a bristle brush and a long wooden or metal handle. Together they reflect the decorative metalwork commonly found in British homes from the early to mid twentieth century, when copper and brass were used for both practical hearth items and display pieces. Makers are not marked on the pieces viewed.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
Condition is consistent with age and regular use. The copper pot shows a visible split along one seam, verdigris and patination around its base, and surface scratches and tarnish throughout. The brass bowl has an uneven, dulled finish with spotting, and the crumb tray shows wear and staining. The bell-shaped vessel and brush also show signs of handling and oxidation. The pieces appear to be original, with no obvious later alterations. Their untouched patina and character will appeal to collectors of Victorian and Edwardian style hearth ware, as well as buyers looking for period decor. Please inspect the photographs carefully and view in person where possible.
