Vintage E J Trevett and Sons Chester Silver Sovereign Fob Case, 1913
This vintage sovereign fob case is by E J Trevett and Sons and bears Chester silver hallmarks, with the date 1913 given for this lot. It is a small, round, hinged case with a domed exterior and a suspension ring set on a short collar at the top. Hallmarks are struck inside the lid, and the hinged interior opens to reveal a finely patterned, engine-turned style base. Sovereign cases of this kind were carried on a watch chain or fob, and this example offers a compact piece of early twentieth-century silver for the collector.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
This piece shows the surface wear expected of a item of its age, including tarnish, fine scratches and some marks to the domed exterior and the inside of the lid. The hallmarks and the engine-turned detail to the interior remain visible, and the case appears to retain its original form, with no later alterations evident. Prospective buyers should examine the piece closely and note the light wear before bidding. The combination of a dated 1913 Chester hallmark and a named maker will appeal to collectors of Chester silver, Edwardian fob accessories and small antique silver objects.
