Vintage Ephemera Tray with Wartime Diaries from WW2 Liverpool
This mixed tray of vintage ephemera includes several Holy Bibles, an Illustrated National Pronouncing Dictionary and a quantity of loose paper items. Among the books is a dark cloth-bound Holy Bible with gilt lettering to the spine, a second Bible with worn gilt titling, and a green cloth-bound Illustrated National Pronouncing Dictionary with decorative blind-stamped boards. Further volumes include a brown leather-bound book, a small red leather-bound book and a dark-covered volume. The tray also holds a card box for visiting cards, which is inscribed with a name and address in Wallasey, a printed calendar card, and a group of small notebooks with marbled, textured and cloth-style covers. The collection is described as including wartime diaries from WW2 Liverpool.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
The items show general wear consistent with age and use. Bindings are worn, with rubbing, chipped edges and loose or detached boards to several volumes, and some of the paper ephemera is creased, torn or loose within the tray. The lots appear to be presented as found, with no evidence of restoration, and their original covers and inscriptions are largely retained. For collectors of Second World War social history, Liverpool and Wallasey local history, or vintage religious and reference books, this group offers a varied range of personal and printed material. Buyers should inspect the lot carefully, as the condition of individual pieces varies.
