Vintage Faux Tortoiseshell Paper Knife and Magnifying Glass
This lot comprises a vintage paper knife and a magnifying glass, both finished in faux tortoiseshell. The paper knife is a slender, faceted implement with a mottled amber and deep brown surface and a tapered, pointed end. The magnifying glass has a circular lens set within a dark, mottled rim with lighter banding, and is fitted with a metal suspension loop formed into a heart shape at the top. Both pieces share a complementary tortoiseshell effect, making them suitable for display together as a desk set or as individual collectables.
Condition and Collector Appeal
The paper knife shows general surface wear consistent with age, and the tip appears worn. The magnifying glass lens carries two small pieces of white tape adhered to its surface, which are visible in the lot. Functionality has not been tested. Pieces of this type, combining a decorative faux tortoiseshell finish with a practical purpose, are of interest to collectors of vintage desk accessories and to buyers looking for period-style items for a writing desk or study.

Items are sold on a “sold as seen” basis, electrical items etc are untested unless stated otherwise in the title of the items in question. We have a viewing day on Saturday 10am-3pm if you are unsure about an item from photos. Please be aware that as we are now VAT registered the buyers commission is now 17.5% plus VAT.
#### As of 1/10/2021 we will be implementing a 7 day collection rule – items must be collected within 7 days unless an agreement is arranged in the event of instances such as being away on holiday, medical reasons etc. Any lots that are not collected within 7 days will be liable to a storage charge of £1.20 per day.
