Two Vintage Fishing Rods
This lot comprises two vintage fishing rods, one by E T Barlow and Sons, bearing the Vortex Supreme name, and one by Rodrill of London, bearing the Goldcrest name. Both rods are offered together as a single lot, appealing to anglers and collectors of mid-twentieth century fishing tackle.
The E T Barlow and Sons rod carries the Vortex Supreme designation printed along its blank, and it is fitted with cork handle sections secured by metal reel fittings. The Rodrill of London rod is finished in green with contrasting red and white bands along its sections, and the Goldcrest name appears on the blank. Both rods show the characteristic styling of their period, and the cork handles and decorative bindings contribute to their traditional appearance.
Condition and Collectability
The rods are offered as found and have not been tested, and no assurance is given that they are complete or in working order. The cork handles show general signs of age and handling, and there is some surface dirt and wear consistent with their vintage. The maker’s markings on both rods remain legible, which adds to their originality and interest.
Vintage rods by named makers such as E T Barlow and Sons and Rodrill of London are sought after by collectors of angling antiques and by anglers who value period tackle. This pairing of two distinct makers offers an interesting opportunity for display, restoration or use as a collector’s piece.
