Vintage Japanese Hand Painted Porcelain Square Tray
This vintage Japanese hand painted porcelain square tray features a central orange floral medallion set against a green leafy ground, with deep blue and gold panels to each corner and along the sides. The tray has a shallow well with cut corners, and its rim is finished in gilt. The décor is typical of decorative Japanese export porcelain. The hint associates it with makers such as Kozan Gama or the MR style, but this attribution is not confirmed. The mark on the underside is a blue seal-style character mark, which we are unable to read with certainty, so it is offered without a definite maker’s attribution.
Condition and Collectability
The tray shows age-appropriate wear, including some rubbing to the gilding around the rim and panel edges, and light staining or speckling on the underside, particularly near the foot rim. No chips or cracks are visible in the photographs, though the piece should be viewed in person for a full assessment. The original hand painted decoration appears intact across the central medallion and panels. Its bold colour scheme, traditional floral motifs and genuine age make it an appealing piece for collectors of Japanese ceramics, and it would also suit a buyer looking for a decorative dish for display or for trinkets and jewellery.
