Vintage Lead Drain Hopper
This lot is a vintage lead drain hopper, a rainwater collection fitting of the type once used to direct water from a roof gutter into a downpipe. It is offered as a single piece of architectural salvage.
The hopper has a tapered, funnel-like form with a broad open top and a narrowing outlet at one end. Its body is formed from sheet with a visible raised seam running down the front face, and the outlet section is shaped to receive a pipe. A galvanised metal pipe sits alongside the hopper at one side. The lot carries no maker’s marks or branding.
Condition and Collector Interest
The surface shows considerable weathering, with a red-brown oxidised or coated finish, areas of surface corrosion and pitting, and wear to the edges. The outlet end is rough and shows signs of age. Originality appears to be retained, with the seam and form of the fitting intact. Buyers interested in period building components, reclaimed lead work or restoration projects may find this hopper of particular interest.
