Vintage Small Cast Iron Gluepot with Wire Bail Handle
This vintage small cast iron gluepot is a traditional workshop vessel of the kind once used for melting animal glue and other adhesives over gentle heat. It is shown here with a companion pot of similar character, which the lot appears to include. The main piece has a squat, tapered body, a flared rim and a substantial wire bail handle secured to the sides by cast lugs. The second pot is smaller and straight-sided, with a flared rim and small lugs for a handle. Both are cast iron and bear the rough, hand-finished surfaces typical of pieces made for practical use rather than display. The maker is not identified, and no maker’s marks are visible in the images.
Honest Condition with Authentic Workshop Wear
The pieces show an even, rust-brown surface with mottled patina, particularly on the exterior of the larger pot, along with scattered surface oxidation and areas of wear consistent with long handling. The interior of each vessel is orange-brown with visible surface corrosion. The bail handle shows age-related darkening and light surface rust. No significant cracks or breaks are apparent in the photographs, although the pieces should be inspected in person. Their originality and honest, unrestored finish make them appealing to collectors of antique tools, rural ironwork and industrial curios, as well as to buyers seeking characterful vintage pieces for display in a workshop or home.
