Vintage Globe-Wernicke Style Stacking Barrister’s Bookcase

This vintage stacking barrister’s bookcase is offered in the Globe-Wernicke style, a sectional form associated with early twentieth-century British and continental office and study furniture. It comprises a series of stacked glazed sections that combine to form a freestanding bookcase, with a moulded top and a lower panelled section. The dark-stained wood appears to be oak, and each glazed door is set with leaded-style glazing in a geometric lattice pattern. The sections are finished with rounded moulded rails and small metal fittings, and the arrangement allows the bookcase to be built up or reduced to suit the space available.

Condition and Collectability

The bookcase shows wear consistent with its age, including surface marks and general handling to the timber and moulded edges. Its condition has not been fully assessed, and the sections should be inspected in person before purchase, including the glazing, fittings and how the individual sections sit together. The arrangement of stacked sections, the leaded-style glazing and the traditional oak finish will appeal to collectors of vintage barrister’s bookcases and to buyers seeking a characterful piece of period storage for a study, library or home office.
