A Vintage Ten Pound Banknote from the Bank of England
This lot is a vintage ten pound banknote issued by the Bank of England, bearing serial number C40 405613. The front carries the promissory wording “I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand the Sum of Ten Pounds”, together with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara and a pearl necklace. A figure of Britannia holding a shield appears to the left, and the note is signed by the Chief Cashier. The reverse features a lion holding a banner inscribed “Ten Pounds” beneath the words “Bank of England”, with the denomination “10” printed in both corners of the design.
Condition and Collector Appeal
The note shows signs of handling, with some creasing and marks visible on the reverse, while the front appears comparatively clean with crisp detailing. Wear is visible along the edges. The note appears to retain its original printed design, and no obvious alterations are apparent. It may be of interest to collectors of British banknotes, particular those drawn to notes from the Elizabeth II era, and to those who value notes with a clearly legible serial number and signature. It is offered in the condition described.
