Vintage Thunderbird 5 International Rescue Electronic Toy
This lot is a vintage electronic light-up toy modelled on Thunderbird 5, the orbiting space station craft from the International Rescue series. It is described as Hong Kong made and is presented as a collectable piece of 1960s popular culture. The toy takes the form of a flat, saucer-shaped craft in a metallic gold finish, with a clear domed cockpit at its centre. The dome is printed in blue with the words INTERNATIONAL RESCUE and shows a small figure and control panel detail beneath. The craft carries the name THUNDERBIRD 5 on its lower rim, and four coloured lens-style lights sit around its upper surface in green, red and blue. A separate docking section with railings and a red beacon extends from one side, marked with the number 5.
Condition, Originality and Collector Interest
The toy shows age-related wear consistent with its vintage, including marks and handling wear to the gold finish and the printed elements. The underside reveals the original mechanism, a blue housing fitted with grooved wheels, together with a removable panel and fixing screws. The coloured lights and dome appear to be original to the piece, and no later replacement parts are evident. Buyers should note that this lot is offered as seen, and its working order has not been confirmed. Its strong Thunderbirds association, distinctive styling and Hong Kong manufacture make it of interest to collectors of Gerry Anderson memorabilia, vintage toys and retro space-themed items.
