Vintage Boxed Tilley X246B Stormlight Lamp

This lot offers a vintage Tilley X246B Stormlight paraffin lamp, presented in its original cardboard box. Tilley lamps have been made in Britain since the early twentieth century and remain highly regarded by campers, outdoor enthusiasts and collectors of traditional lighting. The X246B is recognisable by its red enamelled fount, chrome-plated wire carry handle and dark hooded top, which gives it a distinctive silhouette. The Stormlight designation refers to the model’s glass globe and mantle arrangement, intended for use in open-air conditions where a steady, bright light is needed. A small glass jar accompanies the lamp, though its purpose has not been confirmed.

Condition and Originality

The lamp shows general age-related wear, including marks and light surface discolouration to the fount and top, and the glass globe appears to be present. The original box is well used, with creasing, split corners, tape residue and a torn lower flap, but it retains the model designation and the illustrated red panel that make it instantly identifiable. The lamp has not been tested, and no claims are made regarding its functionality or whether every original component is present. Its boxed presentation and clear period styling may appeal to collectors of vintage British camping equipment, or to anyone looking to display a piece of classic outdoor heritage.
