Vintage Wooden Cutlery Storage Table, Lot 1193
This vintage wooden cutlery storage table is offered as lot 1193. It combines a serpentine front with cabriole legs and a hinged top that lifts to reveal a fitted interior for storing cutlery. The front carries two drawers, one with a key escutcheon and one with a knob, and the lower drawer is lined with purple velvet and fitted with slotted cutlery inserts. The lid is lined with cream pleated satin and fitted with velvet-covered compartments, which give the piece a practical, purpose-built character typical of mid-twentieth-century canteen furniture.
Condition and Collectable Appeal
The table shows general signs of age and use, including scratches and light marks to the top surface and some wear to the wood. The velvet lining and fitted inserts are visible and appear largely in place. The original hinged top, drawer fronts and interior fittings remain as made, which adds to its appeal as a period piece.
