Vintage Wooden First Aid Box with Contents
This vintage wooden first aid box has a white painted finish and a hinged lid stencilled with the words “First Aid Case” in red and black lettering. The lid opens to reveal a fitted interior divided into compartments, with a metal fastening plate to the underside of the lid and a printed paper label inside referring to Case No. 3 and sulphanilamide tablets B.P. The compartments hold a selection of period first aid items, including orange boxes of Elastoplast dressing strips, a tube of New Formula Acriflex antiseptic cream, several boxes of Standard Dressing No. 9 B.P.C., a 15g Savlon antiseptic cream and a wrapped bandage. The case is a practical and characterful piece of medical ephemera.
Condition and Originality
The box shows general wear consistent with age and use, including scuffing, dirt marks and chipping to the white paint. The lettering to the lid is partly worn, and there is yellowish staining to the top and a drip mark down one side. Green paint marks are visible to the lower side. The contents are offered as found, with the branded dressing and cream packaging retaining its printed graphics. No checks have been made to confirm the contents are complete or fit for use. The original packaging and labelling make this an appealing piece for collectors of medical and household ephemera, as well as those interested in vintage first aid equipment and mid-century design.
