Introduction

This is a poignant sweetheart brooch commemorating Arras, a significant site during the First World War. Crafted with a brass base and adorned with vibrant enamel, the brooch features a depiction of the Arras landscape. The design likely served as a memento for loved ones left behind, a tangible connection to those serving on the Western Front. These brooches were often worn by family members as a symbol of hope and remembrance during a time of immense loss and uncertainty.

Condition

The brooch exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with its period, adding to its character and historical significance. The enamel shows some minor crazing and loss, and the brass has a gentle patina. Despite these imperfections, the brooch remains a compelling example of WWI-era sentimental jewellery. It would appeal to collectors of military memorabilia, particularly those interested in sweetheart jewellery or items relating to the Arras battlefield.
