Wartime 78 rpm Record Collection
This lot is a collection of wartime 78 rpm shellac records, offered as a group. The hint for this lot includes Winston Churchill speeches from 1940 and RAF band national anthems of allied squadrons. The visible labels include His Master’s Voice, a Decca Special Record and a light blue Royal Air Force label, which reflects the mix of wartime spoken word and military music in the group. The discs are housed in brown paper sleeves, and several sleeves carry handwritten or printed marks.
Condition and Collectability
The records are offered as seen and have not been tested for playback. Surface wear, edge marks and sleeve ageing are visible in the photographs, and no further grading has been carried out. The collection may appeal to collectors of wartime ephemera, 78 rpm enthusiasts and those interested in Churchill-era broadcasts or RAF music, particularly as the mix of labels and sleeves gives a sense of how these discs were issued and kept.
