Wedgwood Commemorative Butter Dish Celebrating Wiggins Teape Papermakers

This boxed ceramic butter dish was produced to mark the Wiggins Teape Group, papermakers, and their 1761 to 1961 anniversary. The dish has a rectangular base with a fitted domed lid, and the lid is decorated with a red transfer print of a papermaking scene showing workers at a long wooden bench, with stacked blocks of material beside them. The lid is further decorated with a repeated band of small figures engaged in papermaking tasks, while the front and rear faces are plain cream. The lid and base are glazed in a cream finish. The accompanying card box has a fitted inner insert whose lid carries a red transfer print of two papermakers and the wording “The Wiggins Teape Group, Papermakers 1761-1961”. The item is described as a butter dish, and the lot is also described as having a knife rest.

Condition and Collector Interest

The dish is presented in its original cream card box with inner insert. Any further wear, chips or repairs should be checked by the prospective buyer, as this description records only what is visible. The item is of interest to collectors of commemorative ceramics, particularly those who collect pieces marking company anniversaries or the history of the paper industry. Its combined ceramic and printed-card presentation, along with the 1761 to 1961 dating, offers a clearly documented piece of corporate history.
