WWI Cannon Fuse – B.S.C. No. 85

This is a WWI-era cannon fuse, specifically identified as a B.S.C. No. 85. Constructed from solid brass, it features a graduated scale around its circumference, likely used for setting the detonation timing. The fuse is cylindrical with a threaded base for attachment to the shell and a domed top, indicating its impact or time-detonation function. Markings include “B.S.C. No 85” and “LOT 788 1915”, providing valuable historical context and dating the piece to 1915.

Condition and Collectability

The fuse exhibits signs of age and use consistent with its military history. The brass shows patina and some minor wear, but the graduated scale remains largely legible. This is a genuine artifact from the First World War, offering a tangible connection to the era of trench warfare and artillery technology. It would be a valuable addition to a collection of military memorabilia, historical artifacts, or antique brass items, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
