WW1 French Raquette Grenade
This is a rare example of a French “Raquette” anti-tank grenade, also known as a “Petard Raquette”, used during World War I. These primitive but effective devices were designed to be thrown at enemy vehicles, utilising a bundle of explosive charges wrapped around a wooden handle. The construction is simple, consisting of tightly bound explosive packets secured to a wooden shaft, intended to disrupt or disable enemy armoured vehicles.
Condition and Collectibility
This grenade shows signs of age and wear consistent with its historical use and survival. It is presented as a deactivated historical artifact and is not functional. This example is highly sought after by collectors of military memorabilia, particularly those specialising in World War I weaponry and explosive ordnance. It represents a fascinating piece of early anti-tank technology and a tangible link to the battlefields of the Great War.
