WW1 Munitions Workers Badge

This is a striking enamel badge commemorating service during the First World War, specifically for those working in munitions. The badge is circular, featuring a blue enamel background with a gold shield displaying crossed tools. Above the shield is a crown, and the words “ON WAR SERVICE” arc around the top, with “1915” displayed below. The badge is maker-marked “J R Gaunt London” on the reverse, a well-known manufacturer of military badges and insignia.

Condition and Collectibility

The badge exhibits signs of age and wear consistent with its period, adding to its character and authenticity. The enamel is generally intact, though some minor loss and surface scratches are present. This badge is a desirable piece for collectors of British military memorabilia, particularly those interested in the social history of the First World War and the vital role played by munitions workers. It would be a valuable addition to any collection or a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during wartime.
