WW2 Blackout Oil Lantern

This is a 1941 WW2 CGP Ltd ministry supplied blackout oil lantern. These lanterns were essential during the Second World War, designed to provide a dim, shielded light source that wouldn’t reveal positions during blackouts. The construction is robust, featuring a metal frame, glass panels, and a protective cage around the glass to prevent breakage. The lantern is suspended by a wire handle, and features a small lever to likely adjust the wick.

Condition

This lantern shows signs of age and use, consistent with its wartime origins. The metal exhibits surface corrosion and wear, and the glass panels show some dirt and possible minor scratches. Despite its condition, this lantern remains a fascinating piece of history, appealing to collectors of military memorabilia, vintage lighting, and items from the Second World War. It offers a tangible connection to a significant period in history.
