Introduction

This is a vintage pin badge commemorating Ypres, a city in Belgium heavily impacted during World War One. The badge is crafted from a base metal with a gilt finish, and features a detailed depiction of the city’s ramparts and architecture. The design is intricate, with a heraldic style, and is likely a commemorative piece issued to soldiers or civilians connected to the battles fought in and around Ypres.

Condition

The badge shows signs of age and wear, consistent with its likely wartime or post-war origin. There is some loss of gilt to the high points of the design, and minor surface scratches. Despite this, the badge remains a visually striking and historically significant piece, appealing to collectors of military memorabilia, particularly those interested in the First World War and the battles of Ypres.
