Pair of Sony Brooklands Edition Floor-Standing Speakers, Model SS-176EB
This lot offers a pair of Sony Brooklands Edition floor-standing speakers, model SS-176EB, offered as Lot 195. Each tall cabinet has a black wood-grain effect finish and a dark fabric grille bearing the Sony logo. Behind each grille sits a bass driver and a smaller high-frequency tweeter, both with gold-coloured mounting screws. The rear of each cabinet has a circular port and a recessed terminal panel with gold-tone binding posts, labelled separately for low and high frequency. A gold-coloured plaque on the back reads “176E Brooklands Edition” and “England”, and each speaker has its own sequential serial label. Both cabinets stand on a dark plinth with small brass-coloured feet.
Condition, Originality and Collector Appeal
The speakers show general wear consistent with their age, including light marks and scuffs to the black finish and some small surface marks on the cabinets, as seen in the photographs of the lot. The grilles and the gold-tone Brooklands Edition plaques appear to be present and original to each speaker. The feet and the rear terminal panels also appear to be original. No testing has been carried out, and the speakers are offered as seen, with no guarantee given as to their function. The pairing, the Brooklands Edition designation and the matching serial labels may be of interest to collectors of Sony home audio and to enthusiasts looking for a pair of floor-standing speakers with an English-marked special edition finish.
